Stay Active This Summer!
I love to stay active! It’s a non-negotiable part of my life. I do it year round—I don’t take a summer vacation from fitness! I love teaching my Body & Soul® classes where I can be active and inspire others to be active. But as the weather gets warm and welcomes me to the outside, I look to include additional activities in my schedule to make the most of the summer. Last summer, in addition to teaching Body & Soul® I taught water aerobics classes since we have a pool. It was alot of fun, gave me more exercise, lots of Vitamin D, and beat floating or swimming around the pool by myself. I look forward to doing this again this year. One thing my husband and I will do again this summer is to go on hikes with our son. It’s not rigorous hiking, but it’s a fun family bonding experience. Our goal is being outside in nature, getting some exercise, and spending time with loved ones. The newest activity we’ve just started is playing Pickleball. Pickleball is the new rage! We’ve renamed it Giggleball because that’s what it makes us do! We’ve even changed our basketball court over to a Pickleball court. We are learning the sport and having a lot of fun together. Movement, laughter, and fellowship is the name of the game - what could be better?! What about you? Do you have an activity list that includes the whole family? If not, consider collecting ideas from the whole family to get them involved. You can even make a calendar of fun, active things to do and create some summer activity habits for the whole family. Yes, it will be hot this summer, but don’t let that be an excuse. If you keep at it, you will acclimate. We all need more fresh air than we realize. It is vital to lung health. And exercise promotes bone & muscle strength. A bonus is doing it with others in community. Community is a need we all have to live well. So, join me and others in the great outdoors this summer! These scriptural principles motivate me to stay active and to have fun. I hope they inspire you, too:
“For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” 1 Cor 6:20 (NAS)
“A joyful heart (laughter) is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22 (NAS)
