1 Timothy 4:7b-9 “…train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.”(NIV)
Spiritual Fitness training—what a concept! Have you thought about what this really is? We all know that physical training requires effort, faithfulness and commitment, both to get in shape physically, and stay in shape physically. In Body & Soul® we receive this physical training and we do it for our health, not for body-perfection. We want to be fit for kingdom purposes, so that we can serve the Lord and share the good news of Jesus Christ, our Savior. This has value, as it says in 1 Timothy 4:8. But Body & Soul® goes beyond this to provide a place for training in godliness as well. And this has value both for the present life and the life to come! (also expressed in 1 Timothy 4.8.) When we sing along with the inspirational music as we exercise, we are doing spiritual fitness training. Worship trains us in godliness. When we listen to devotional messages and Scripture shared in class, we are motivated to grow in spiritual faithfulness and strength. It guides us to peace, joy in hard circumstances, and hope in the Lord. That is spiritual fitness training. And finally, when we connect with like-minded friends and share prayer requests, praises and sorrows, we are also strengthening our spiritual muscles. Make a fresh commitment this spring to grow in godliness as you grow in stop-ed-meds.net! Ramp up your spiritual strength training!
Thought for the day
Physical training + Spiritual Training = True Health. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (1 Timothy 4:9)
Dear Lord, help me to make a new commitment to both physical and spiritual fitness training. I know you will guide me to be faithful to this commitment. Thank you for showing me that true health is both physical and spiritual. Amen.
