the love of god
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Hebrews8:38-39
One of my best friends is always saying that she is God’s favorite. It always makes me giggle and of course I can’t help but respond, “Um, actually I think I’m His favorite.” It’s a silly exercise because the truth is that we are all His favorites and that includes YOU too! The love of God is so much bigger than we can imagine. In fact, there is nothing we can do to separate ourselves from the love of God. Isn’t that encouraging?!?!
God’s love surrounds us for the entirety of our life and when we die, we who are believers, are still going to experience His love in eternity. There is no being of supernatural nor governmental authority who can stand between the love of God and His people. Nothing now, nothing in our past, nothing in all of creation, which encompasses literally everything our human mind can conjure imaginatively or reference concretely, can come between us and the love of our Father.
That’s an extraordinary kind of love. It’s is faithful and true, even we aren’t. It is sure and steady, even when we wander and stumble. It is not bound by time nor space. It’s bigger than we can imagine. It’s closer than the air we breathe in. His love surrounds us, even when we fail Him. His love welcomed us while we were yet sinners. His love never fails.
The love of God is overwhelming. That we are called into His family is nothing short of shocking and should forever be humbling to those He has called to follow Him. The love of God moves us to live differently from the world, even when it comes at a high cost. But even we were called to give it all, even to death, we still couldn’t outdo the acts of love shown to us by a high and holy God.
The love of God. What a wonderful thing to contemplate as we consider how we love one another. Let’s be beacons of His love to a hurting world. He came and He showed us what real love looks like. We’ve seen it and we know that “ God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 ESV. And that, my friends, changes absolutely everything.
How can you demonstrate the love of God to someone today?
How has God demonstrated His love for you? Tell someone about it and give glory to God!
