His marvelous light
I really am fortunate to live in a part of the country where we have 4 seasons. I like all 4 seasons, but this winter has been a tough one for me. Dealing with a huge loss of a daily relationship and the changes that come when friends move has really been hard. There was so little sunshine that, for the first time, I really suffered from S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). There seemed to be weeks where we didn’t see the sun and that just added to my already down mood. When the sun would be out and the sky was blue instead of gray, I would feel lighter and happier. But then the next day, it would be gray sky and no sun and I would feel the weight of the winter darkness and drear. For several weeks, I helped my friend of 35 years pack up her house and move far away. That was a hard loss and one that came too soon after 2 other good friends moved away. These losses and changes made the darkness darker and heavier. BUT…
It says in 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” ESV
The light of the Son and the sun draws us OUT of the darkness! There is NO darkness in God’s marvelous light! He has chosen me and you to be his very own possession. And he calls us out of the darkness/winter and into HIS marvelous light/spring. That’s where the renewal, growth and love are! The word marvelous means causing great wonder; extraordinary. Jesus calls us out of the dreary and sometimes depressing darkness into wonder-causing, extraordinary, awe-inspiring light because He is the Light!
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for sending your dear Son, Jesus, to draw us out and away from our darkness and into His marvelous light! Thank you that we can rest and enjoy the sunshine and the ever present Son shine of your Holy Spirit every day! “The heavens declare your glory” and we are so grateful! Amen
Will you join me in seeking the sonshine of Jesus even on the dreary days when the sunshine is hidden behind the clouds? Will you give thanks for God’s marvelous light as he leads you from winter into spring?
