Did you know that your life can “shine?”
Every time you speak words of encouragement to someone, you are shining a light into their life. Every time you give a hug, you shine love on that person. When you serve others or offer to help them out, your life “shines.” And it’s amazing how the reflection comes back to you when you shine this way.
When I bought glow bracelets for my grandchildren for the 4th of July one year, I had no idea what joy would come back to me as I watched their joy bubble up. They shook them to get the glowing started, shared them with each other, put them on, and giggled about them. It was a time of unbridled joy and chaos.
We all treasure these joy-filled shining times, but the truth is that also in life there are times when we feel like we are wandering in the darkness of sorrow or pain. It’s harder to shine during these times, but with God’s help we can shine in a different way as we trust him through the hard times and the challenging days. The song “Glow in the Dark” by Jason Gray says it this way:
“… even in the darkest place His love can make you radiate. Doesn’t matter how deep, how dark the night is, keep hoping, keep on shining, and they’ll see His light burning in your heart. … Like a flame, like a burning star, you can shine right where you are. He made you to glow in the dark.”
This new spring session of Body & Soul is called “Shine On” because with God’s help, we can keep on shining no matter what happens in our life. Let the world see how we deal with dark times, challenges, pain and sorrow. Even as we struggle through things, we can glow for God as we hold fast to trust him, as we hope when things seem hopeless, as we pray and wait for answers. Let’s put on those divine glow bracelets as we lift our hands and our hearts to God; he will guide us through the dark. We can all glow brightly as we grow in both physical strength and spiritual strength together in Body & Soul!
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone who is in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16:
We can do this. We can shine on!
