Give it some gas!!

Whose foot is on the gas pedal of your life? If it’s yours, are you a pedal-to-the-medal driver, or a driving-miss-daisy driver? Do you have a need for speed, or are you happiest in the right lane (a.k.a. the slow lane)?

I just finished reading Priscilla Shirer’s book titled “God is Able”, and in this book, she tells the story of being caught in the right lane behind a slow driver, while others pass in a steady stream on the left. I have been in the same position she describes, and I bet you have too. She writes that when she’s finally able to jump out and pass the slowpoke, she’s surprised to see that the car clogging up traffic, is a turbo charged sports car! And this speed machine is being driven by a “grandma-looking woman with gray hair and slumped shoulders that barely made it over the steering wheel.” Priscilla encourages us to ponder the untapped power that lives under the hood of grandma’s sports car. Does she even know the potential power available to her? I highly recommend that you read the entire book, but for today, I encourage all of us to consider Ephesians 3:20 where it says, “according to the power at work within us”. This power is God’s Holy Spirit, and it lives in those who believe in Jesus Christ. This power is more than we can imagine, and beyond anything our human minds can conceive. And yet, it’s possible to let it sit untested as we miss out on God’s adventure for us because we’re content taking in the scenery from the slow lane.

For some of us, we may think the slow lane is the safest route, but I don’t think that’s always the case. Don’t get me wrong. There’s somethingwonderful about a nice scenic Sunday drive from time to time, but some adventures call for enough speed to blow our hair back and cause us to grip the steering wheel just a bit tighter as we hold on for the ride God has planned for us! Let’s see what’s under the hood and let that (Holy Spirit) power show off a little. I challenge each of us to take our foot off the accelerator today and let the One who controls the wind, take over and lead us in the ride of our lives!

Cheers to wind-blown hair, turbo engines, and life in the fast lane!
