“Even Then” by Micah Tyler

“Even when it feels like my world is shaken. Even when I’ve had all that I can take, I know, you never let me go. And even when the waters won’t stop rising, even when I’m caught in the dead of night, I know, no matter how it ends, you’re with me even then…And even in the midst of the struggle, and even when it’s hard to remember, you alone are my defense. When I’m standing on your promises I know that even in the thick of the battle, and even through the valley of the shadows, you alone are my defense.”

Our world can get shaken by many things — health challenges, loved ones who struggle, financial problems, relational pain—and more. But, as this song says, God does not let us go: he is with us, in the middle of all of our life struggles. He can transform us from worry to trust and fear to faith if we cling to his precious promises, given to us in his love letter the Bible. In the thick of life’s battles we can count on him. We can reach out to him in prayer—even prayers of lament, as David did in the psalms. And like David, after sharing your pain and concerns with God, don’t forget to praise him. Express your trust and your belief. God is the mender of broken people. He is our fortress in the storms of life. He alone is our defense.

Psalm 5:1-3, 11-12 “Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my king and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly…let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”

Questions: Is something shaking up your world right now? What promises will you stand on, as God transforms you from worry to trust and fear to faith?

Prayer Power: Dear Lord, thank you for being with me, fighting for me in the middle of the battles and the struggles in my life. Help me to always remember that when my world is shaking you are with me—even then. Amen.
