Does Music Make You Come Alive?
Music truly makes me come alive, time and time again. For example–I’m having a good day; I click to listen to one of my favorite Body & Soul songs—and as I sing along with it, my soul soars. It lifts my heart in gratitude. It makes me smile. I feel alive! Or…I’m having a bad day, so I click to listen and the words encourage me, even if I have tears in my eyes. The music helps me survive what I am going through as it reminds me of God’s love for me, that he is always with me, that I can be an overcomer. God gives me hope through music—and I come alive, even in the midst of sorrow.
How about you? Does music make you come alive, too?
If you have been in our Body & Soul classes for awhile, you will recognize the music that we are exercising to this fall. We have chosen the ‘best of the best’ music from recent years and revamped the choreography to rev it up for fantastic workout options in all of our programs this fall. We are excited!
And I am particularly excited about the lead song for the session, “Alive” by Hillsong Young & Free. When we used it previously, it was a low impact cardio, but now it is a ramped up warmup for several of our programs. I love this song! When I hear the first notes, it begins to inspire my soul as well as my body. I find that as I get moving to the beat, I feel the energy welling up from inside of me, and by the end of the song I feel hope rising, joy bubbling up and faith strengthening my heart as my body gets physically strengthened, all because of the message of the lyrics.
This song is a declaration of praise to God: “You are my freedom. We lift you higher. Your love is never-ending. You are alive in us. Nothing can take your place. You are all we need. Your love has set us free.”
