Does this blog title excite you or bring you anxiety? Do the limitless possibilities in your life cause you to begin making a list of all the many choices you get to make today, or remind you that you’ve never been a strong decision-maker and you’d rather not have to choose? Well, possibilities require choices, and choices either get us excited or cause us anxiety. Vanilla or chocolate. Tennis shoes or cowboy boots. Read the book or watch the movie. So many choices in the world of food, apparel, and hobbies. We even have choices to make when it comes to our pursuit of fitness. Bike or hike. Swim or run. Group fitness or personal training. But with each pair of choices you just read, you likely had a decision come to your mind – a choice. We’re going to call that decision your “favorite” between the two. Here are my favorites: chocolate (be honest – there’s no real choice there!), tennis shoes, read the book, bike (that’s a tough one), swim, group fitness (that’s an easy one).

When it comes to the class programs of Body & Soul, however, I cannot begin to pick my favorite, because each one is challenging and full of innovative exercise plans that keep me coming back for more! I love lifting weights to great contemporary Christian music during Power Strength, and I love getting my heart rate up during cardio intervals in Boot Camp. This morning I had the privilege of teaching a Cardio/Strength class (you can check out that program by watching the video below). This class is sure to challenge your heart and your muscles.

Whether or not you find your single favorite fitness class, I’m certain that you will find a class that you love in Body & Soul. So don’t worry about picking a favorite, just exercise your decision-making skills and start today.

In 1981 I led the first Body & Soul Workout at a ladies retreat at my church. We called it “aerobics” and everyone loved it. My friend Nan invited all of us to continue to work out in her basement—that was the first Body & Soul class. My visionary husband Roy immediately knew that we needed to trademark the name Body & Soul, so he set that in motion. Soon classes spread across the US and the world. Then multiple programs blossomed to meet the fitness needs of many populations. But the special part about Body & Soul was, and still is, the fact that we are more than just a great fitness program. The inspiring Christian music, uplifting words of hope and caring leadership of our certified instructors set us apart. Body & Soul is where faith & fitness meets. Everyone who has ever been involved in our classes over the past 35 years has experienced that. It is a beautiful thing!

Jeannie-AmyAt our Instructor Training Workshop in August we will be joyfully celebrating 35 years of faith & fitness! And there is BIG news concerning that event! Following God’s leading, starting in August, our own Amy Stafford will become the new President of Body & Soul.

I am excited to “pass the baton” of leadership to her to be our new “team captain” as we all continue to run the Body & Soul race together.  I am also excited that I am healthy and committed to continue to run on the team with her as the Director of Spiritual Impact in Body & Soul as well as the Program Director for Dance Blast.  God has guided us every step of the way! Watch this short video to hear the details:

This life is not a quick relay. It’s a marathon, you know it’s true. Instructors and students alike are part of this team called Body & Soul. We are all running this race of life together. In Hebrews it says this: “…let us run with perseverance the race that is marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” Hebrews 12:1b. This is what we do in Body & Soul—we get stronger physically so we can run with physical endurance, and we get stronger spiritually so we can have the mental and emotional perseverance to face whatever comes next. And the music helps us to keep our eyes on Jesus! I am so blessed to be a part of it. And I am blessed to be here to support Amy as she leads us into the next era of Body & Soul. I look forward to seeing what God does as Body & Soul grows and flourishes under her leadership!

Here’s an action item for you—be a part of it! Stay faithful in attending a Body & Soul class near you. If you’ve moved, help us to start a new class in your town. If you haven’t been to class recently, start today. YOU are a part of the Body & Soul story! We hope to see you at our 35th Celebration Workshop August 4-6. Registration for the event will be opening in May. Together let’s celebrate the past, present and future of this special ministry called Body & Soul!

And one more thing—stay tuned to this blog—next week you will hear more about Amy as she shares her story with you!
